Launch

I’ll be launching the book on October 28 from 6pm (formalities probably from 7) at Blue Velvet, 60 Smith St Collingwood. Everyone is welcome. If you tell me you’re coming by October 22 I’ll book some finger food for you. If you miss the launch you’ll have to wait until November 5 to buy it in bookshops, and a fair bit longer through places like Amazon.

If having a book launch at a nightclub (even one that doubles as an art gallery) seems strange, there is an explanation. Blue Velvet is owned and run by Cameron Jones, a mathematician who features in the book. Cameron is also an artist, using his mathematical work, particularly on fractals, to create both visual art and musical compositions. Just one example of the diversity of Australian Scientists I have come across in writing the book.

While I am at it, this is the publisher’s website on the book. You can order copies particularly if you are overseas and don’t want to wait on Amazon/Book Depository stocking it.

About Stephen Luntz

I am a science journalist, specialising in Australian and New Zealand research across all fields of science. My book, Forensics, Fossils and Fruitbats: A Field Guide to Australian Scientists is out now through CSIRO Publishing. I am also a professional returning officer for non-government organisations. I'm very politically active, but generally try to restrict this blog to scientific matters.

I shall come. Is your book available on Kindle? Although I suppose that would make it harder to sign…

  2. No sign of a Kindle edition. At this stage the publishers are seeing the prime audience as school libraries, careers counselors who can lend it to students etc. I would imagine Kindle doesn’t make sense in such cases. If they get an indication the popular science market, which they see as secondary, is taking off they might rethink that.
